Press release and member announcement for
The Southwest Florida Young Anglers’ Society
Greetings Members and Friends,
Securing a boat large enough to accommodate our group proved a
little more difficult than originally expected. After an
exhaustive search, we have contacted a captain who likes to take
out groups and enjoys children on his boat. This contact has
come too late to organize a proper trip in October.
The November meeting will be held on the 6th. We should wait to
discuss it throughly at the meeting. The Society participated in
the Southwest Florida Monofilament Madness cleanup on Oct. 19th.
We got a late start at Lover's Key. The park had been cleaned by
another group just the previous weekend, and therefore there was
little to pick up. After combing the key for an hour or so, we
decided to clean the boat launch area across the road. Getting
little there, we opted to check out "New Pass". There we hit the
"motherload". Many thanks to Cliff and Steven Ball for the
assist with the use of their Explorer in transporting the refuse
to the roll off trash container at Fish Tale Marina. Together we
picked up and transported nearly 300lbs of debris!
Unfortunately, the festivities at the marina were cut short when
shortly after they started, the barbecue grill quit. By the time
we got there at nearly 3pm, everyone was gone. Rather than face
defeat, we opted to take the participating members to a
waterfront restaurant near Bonita Beach. We had Grouper
sandwiches (Grouper Fingers), fries, and soft drinks.
All-in-all, it was a good day.
We cleaned a previously neglected area of our environment and
then got something to eat! We intend to have a short, fun
meeting this coming November 6th and decide on a November fishing
trip for the members.
Visit our web site at by-the-sea.org and click on
the "SWFYAS" icon.
The November meeting will be on November 6th at
the Estero United Methodist Founders' Hall at
7:30pm.
